Oh, that’s right…Tony Abbott called it a “tax” and everybody has run with it.

Indeed. The media don’t seem to understand the concept of balance. The reason I called this site carbon tax facts is because of this unfortunate reality. I do clarify in the “What is the carbon tax” section that the government’s plans are not actually a carbon tax.

11,885 retailers in Westfield with possible closing due to the increase in lease fees because of this carbon tax grab is just the tip of the iceberg.  Juliar said it would affect less than 500.  Looks like the numbers are all wrong, it should have been at least 500,000 instead of 500.

A tax may be defined as a “pecuniary burden laid upon individuals or property owners to support the government [...] a payment exacted by legislative authority.”[1] A tax “is not a voluntary payment or donation, but an enforced contribution, exacted pursuant to legislative authority” and is “any contribution imposed by government [...] whether under the name of toll, tribute, tallage, gabel, impost, duty, custom, excise, subsidy, aid, supply, or other name.

Pretty sure the “carbon emissions trading scheme” is a tax

Add on to this.  We were told that if ‘anyone raised their prices to cover the tax, then they will be prosecuted’.  So why can the gas and electric companies raise their prices to cover it and get away with it?
We have just been advised that the gas will increase, and 1/3rd of it is to cover the carbon tax.  So shouldn’t they be charged with it?

If our government and other western government’s were really serious about climate change? they would pay countries such as Brazil in south America to keep there forest standing. Instead, the relentless deforestation of the Amazon basin for cattle ranching, soya production and logging all release more Carbon in our atmosphere yearly than all the carbon produced by Australia’s,USA and Europe’s Industries and cars put together!
Without addressing this problem, our planet has no hope from climate change, species extinction and permanent loss of our beautiful forest’s.
This new Carbon Tax is nothing but a tax on tax, with false hope of any real change in our world.
If Julia loses the next election ? Tony has said he will scrap the Carbon Tax? umm he will need a alternative to this! Tony this is your chance!!

It is a Tax. If our electricity bills go up? which they will… the 15% GST Tax on those bills will also take a bigger chunk from that increase!
